CALIFORNIA FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA (FBLA)
CALIFORNIA AWARDS PROGRAM (CAP)COMPETITIVE EVENTS
ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTSThe FBLA mission is to prepare students for successful careers in business through support for curriculum development and innovative assessment tools. To help meet that charge, the FBLA Competitive Events Program has been developed and made available to local and state chapters for use in assessing students in the various knowledge, skills, and abilities that make up today's business education curriculum. FBLA competitive events prepare students for successful careers in a broad range of business and career-related areas. The competitive event guidelines and competencies are created for competitors, advisers, and judges.
FBLA members are encouraged to participate in the California Awards Program (CAP) for competition and recognition offered annually at the Section, State, and National Leadership Conferences. Membership dues must be paid in full in order to register for competition.
The California Awards Program (CAP) Committee includes local chapter adivsers who oversee California FBLA Competitive Events. The CAP Committee meets annually to review the California Awards Program. Advisers with 2 years experience are advised to contact their Section Director if you are interested in serving on this committee.
Please download and print out the CAP EVENTS/PROJECT/AWARDS SUBMISSION DUE DATES to keep appraised of deadlines, etc. If competitors miss deadlines, they will be unable to participate. Also download and print out the EVENTS AT A GLANCE file to get more information on each event.
For Production Events (Skill Site Testing), in order to participate in the 2020-2021 year, membership dues must be PAID by December 1st. For all other events starting at the section conference the membership deadline is January 15th. March 1st is the membership deadline for events starting at the State or National conference.Membership Registration opens August 1. Registration for section and state competition begins on the first Friday in December. Review the CAP Submission Dates (link above) for the due dates of prejudged projects and other events. Membership must be paid and competitors registered in an event in order for work to be judged. Failure to register for the event when submitting prejudged projects will forfeit participation in the event.
Eligibility:
Membership Dues. Students must be paid in full for participation in the California Awards Program.
Individual, Team, and Chapter Events. A member may only enter in two (2) "active" (individual or team) events and one (1) "inactive" (chapter events or Creed) event.
For Advisers Only: Competitive Events Chapter/Parent Contract
It is highly recommended to use a Competitive Events Parent Contract to keep parents aware of the costs of attending conferences.
Advisers can use this link to get a copy of the Competitive Events Parent Contract and fill in your chapter information. Since 2021 is probably going to be a Virtual Conferences year, a contract with your parents is not necessary. However if CAFBLA schedules an in-person SLC, you will need to let your student's parents know the cost of traveling to a conference.
