ELIGIBILITY: The participant may not have previously competed in this event at the national level.
HONOR CODE: The participant needs to read and sign the Honor Code prior to submitting materials for prejudging. (Link)
Overview: This event consists of three (3) parts: materials submission prior to the conference (cover letter and résumé), an objective test, and an interview.
SECTION: Each local chapter may inter two (2) members.
STATE: A maximum of the top six (6) places from the section competition will represent their section at the State Leadership Conference.
NATIONAL: The top four(4) places in the state competition will represent California at the National Leadership Conference. NOTE: Some SLC top-10 finalists will become eligible for the national conference as a result of drops. Make sure you get early approval from your parents to attend the National Conference so you will be in a position to say "yes" to your adviser if you are "bumped up".
Skills: This event honors outstanding FBLA members who have demonstrated leadership qualities, participation in FBLA, and evidence of knowledge and skills essential for successful careers in business.
Finalists - Section Level: A maximum of ten (10) individuals based on preliminary materials will be scheduled for a ten (10) minute interview. The objective test will be factored in on the rating sheets and may be used to break ties. (100 pts.-interview rating sheet, 50 pts-preliminary materials rating sheet)
Finalists - State Level: A maximum of the top six (6) places from section competition will represent their section at the State Leadership Conference. The top ten (10) individuals with the highest objective test score at SLC will be scheduled for a fifteen (15) minute interview. The Objective test is counted in the event total. (100 pts.-Objective Test, 100 pts.-Interview, 50 pts-preliminary materials)
Objective Test Competencies: FBLA Organization, Bylaws, and Handbook; National Competitive Event Guidelines; National Publications; Creed and National Goals; Business Knowledge, i.e., Accounting, Banking, Law, etc.
- Objective Test: 60 minutes. Must take at the scheduled time of the conference. Test score is added into the interview rating sheet and be used to break ties.
- Cover Letter: The one-page cover letter should state reasons for deserving the honor of this award. Address to: Mr. Alexander Graham, President and CEO, FBLA-PBL, 1912 Association Drive, Reston, VA 20191
- Résumé: Not to exceed two pages, should list your FBLA activities and involvement
Submission of prejudged materials: Deadline is 11:59 pm PST on January 15 for section conference and 11:59 pm PST on March 19 for state conference. Failure to submit materials on time or failure to register in this event will forfeit your participation in this event. See Competitive Events Overview for access to submission forms.
Judges: A panel of judges will use the rating sheet to score competitors. lThe objective test will break ties. All decision of judges are final.
